“I met Michael Dunleavy five years ago when his daughter was a Kindergartner in my classroom at Tanaina Elementary. He was engaged parent in our school community and cared deeply about success for all of my students.
The last three years, I have been a teacher mentor with the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project. Mike has been the Project Director and we have worked together toward the goal of supporting teachers here in our local schools as well as across the state. The Mentor Project is a non-evaluative program that works diligently toward the goals of student achievement and teacher performance in the hallways and classrooms of our schools.
Mike holds passion, a diligent work ethic and proven leadership in championing education as a dad and community leader.
I support Mike for School Board as he will strive to give every student a “first class” education as well as making sound decisions with balancing our school dollars.

“Mike Dunleavy has been a long-time Alaska educator, who has served in both rural and urban Alaska schools. He has been a successful teacher, building administrator, and district superintendent and has successfully implemented school and district improvement policies and strategies, while maintaining respect and open communication with community members.
Mr. Dunleavy has successfully administered the Alaska Statewide Mentor Program, for beginning teachers. He coordinated and collaborated ASMP activities through a partnership with the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development and the University of Alaska, to ensure that the needs of schools, districts, students, and beginning teachers were met. Mr. Dunleavy's contributions to the ASMP have resulted in greater teacher retention and higher student achievement in Alaska's schools. He knows what it takes to be an effective teacher and how to positively impact student achievement.
Michael Dunleavy understands educational policy and how it translates into implementation in the classroom. He understands that policymakers and practitioners need to communicate with each other more. Good education policy is informed by good practice - and without good education policy, good practice is rarely sustained.”

Dear Mike,
I am very pleased to hear that you are running for a seat on the Mat-Su School District Board. My family's experience with you as an educator exceeded all expectation. You most certainly put the interest of the student as your top priority. I feel the district could benefit tremendously from both your philosophy toward education and your many years of experience as an educator. In fact, l believe your approach to education, is precisely what the district needs. I would like to again thank you for your involvement in my daughter Lyndsey's education. You resolved problems with policy and cleared the path for her, and no doubt contributed to her becoming a National Merit Scholar.
Thank you,
Bryan Haas
